Description

-Welcome to Mersham Manor Antiques-

A delightful early 19th century Chinoiserie games and sewing table.

c.1830.

Beautifully and profusely decorated throughout, having figures, pavillions, birds, floral, foliage and naturalistic designs.

The colour of the table is a lovely muted burgundy red, with parcel-gilt.

The rectangular top swivels, and then opens to reveal a selection of board game options, a chequerboard to one side, and a cribbage and backgammon board to the opposing side.

Below the games board is a single drawer with the original lock and raised escutcheon, which is over an under sliding drawer for sewing storage etc.

Standing on four elegant ring-turned supports, with central turned stretcher, ending in splay-scrolled feet, with the original brass castors.

The overall condition is very good, with expected signs of use, the top has a historical shrinkage crack, which hasn`t affected it in any way, as everything is still very stable and sturdy. The games boards also have minor cracks, again all is still stable. Lovely patina.
