This small heavy bronze vessel is known as a ecclesiastical cruet (jug) used to hold a small quantity of wine to be dispensed into a church chalice. The wine is known as consecrated wine (Blood of Christ). This bronze has been cast in two parts, the seams clearly visible front and back of the vessel. Dating to the very early 16th century just prior to the reformation of Northern Europe. A seldom encountered pre-reformation Liturgical bronze.

Good solid condition. No breaks, chips or cracks. A build up of verdigris to the inside of the vessel. There is a mellow patina to the exterior. Seam lines are visible. There are casting flaws and imperfections.
