Description
A fine example of a solid sterling silver sugar basin or basket, dating from the reign of George III
It is hallmarked under the spout for London 1812 , with the maker's mark of Alice & George Burrows II. In classic navette form, the body has a beautiful bright cut decoration of scrolls and foliage. There are two shield-shaped cartouches, one of which has italicised initials, the other is empty. The handle is a little loose but does stand to attention quite happily. The oval pedestal base is free of decoration and wobbles slightly.
