Large 18th Century English Mahogany Bookcase

Unusual 18th Century English Country House display cabinet or bookcase of tall proportions. A wonderful cabinet which should be seen to be appreciated as it's very difficult to photograph its true magnificence. This lovely bookcase or display cabinet is of unusual proportions as it is particularly tall. Designed in three sections, the top two parts incorporating glazed doors and the bottom section having panelled cupboard doors. Created by an experienced maker who knew how to balance form and function. The piece incorporates a dentilled cornice and probably dates to c.1760-1770. There are many adjustable shelves in the upper sections. The piece would probably originally have been designed to contain a variety of books or curiosities. The relatively simple square pattern glazing bars maximises the display space. The cabinet is in true country house state with a wonderful, glowing patina and fine colour. The timber used is of high quality throughout and it has aged beautifully.
