This is a large, late Georgian, ovoid-bowled, hop and barley engraved ale glass or goblet dating from the early 19th Century. The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 200 years of use. It has rough pontil mark on the foot. The glass has an ovoid-shaped bowl measuring 14.3 cm (5.7 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is copper wheel engraved with a single hop to one side and with two pairs of barley ears on the other. The barley ears flank the initials 'SCR' engraved in stylised script. The bowl sits on a capstan stem that leads to a conical foot which measures 13 cm (5.2 inches) in diameter. The glass is 21 cm (8.4 inches) in height. It weighs 960 g. (~ 2 lb. 2 oz.). There are no chips, cracks, scratches or any obvious signs of restoration. A hugely impressive glass.
