We offer for consideration, this majestic and substantial all-French drumhead striking mantel clock in polished black slate and rouge / white marble. The clock is in immaculate overall condition and in fine working order. The clocks imposing black slate architectural design is magnificent, with an imposing fluted drumhead and scroll sides, sitting proudly on its two-layered plinth. The slate rendering is then beautifully finished with rouge and white marbled breakfront layered garniture, including a creative fluted panel base. This outstanding hand-crafted embellishment was all modelled during the renaissance of the hugely innovative 'Arts and Crafts' period by renowned French sculptural artist G.Schmoll of Paris, (as can be witnessed by the artists stamp on the movement backplate). The clocks fabulous two-piece black enamelled dial has gold plated Roman numerals with a visually stunning jewelled Brocot escapement, the dial being finished with a pair of original Straight Breguet hands secured with a pinned collet. The front and rear of the drumhead are then both protected by thick bevelled glaze, mounted in heavy brass bezels. The high-quality 8-day pendulum movement was engineered by world famous Vincenti et Cie (and Co), of Montbéliard, and the clock strikes the hours and halves on its nickel 'ting' bell. The clock comes with its original numbered pendulum and an authentic period key. Note: Vincenti and Co., were one of France’s foremost clockmaking firms, formed by Master Horologist Jean Giovanni Vincenti in 1823 and taken over by another famous horologist Jean ‘Albert’ Roux in 1829. In 1855, the company won the Silver Medal at the “Expo Universelle, Paris”, for its clockmaking excellence, thus afforded them the privilege of placing a ‘Medaille d'Argent’ 1855’ stamp, on their movements thereafter. Again, this stamp can be clearly seen embossed into the mechanism backplate. An outstanding French striking mantel clock of the very highest order!
