Painter, muralist, designer and teacher born in London in 1926. After army service in world war 2 he studied at Camberwell school of arts and crafts (1948), then at the Royal College of art (1950-53). He taught drawing part-time at Canterbury college of art for some years. In 1962 he assisted his friend John Ward with murals at Challock church in Kent and went on to complete others for Braxted Park, Essex, a chateau in Bordeaux, the Chandos Memorial chapel in Whitchurch and elsewhere. His work appeared regularly at the R.A. summer exhibition from the 1950’s onwards. Gordon had solo exhibitions at Wye college, Waterhouse gallery, King Street Gallery and Sally Hunter fine art. A retrospective show was held for him at the Royal museum and art gallery in Canterbury in 1990. He worked extensively for “house and garden” and produced wallpaper designs for Shand-Kydd and Sanderson. Provenance; Purchased by me from the artist.
