Description
This is a high quality early abstract completed while either still at the Royal College or soon after leaving. The light and shade of the picture gives a strong image accentuating the abstract nature of the work.
Ernest Alfred Dunn, ARCA (born 1937, Wombwell, Yorkshire) is a well known printmaker, sculptor and teacher. He studied at Barnsley and Leeds Schools of Art prior to attending the Royal College of Art in London 1959-61, and later became senior tutor there. He also taught at the Ravensbourne College of Art in south east London and at the Royal Academy Schools. Alfred Dunn showed with the Redfern Gallery from 1965 and had a solo show at that gallery in 1966 of his paintings, reliefs and prints. He also exhibited widely in Germany and Italy. Eight of his prints are held in the Government Art Collection, and he is also represented in the collections of the British Council, Manchester City Art Gallery and the University of Warwick.
The screen print is in generally good condition. There is some cracking of the paint, a score mark under the signature and a pin prick hole bottom right. These do not affect the look or quality of the work, and the price reflects this.
