This watercolour and other works came from an album of drawings and watercolours collected between 1910 and 1920 by Bertha Anderson. She lived on a farm called Blink Bonny near Auldearn between Nairn and Forres on the Moray Firth in Scotland. During the 1st World War she worked in a convalescent hospital for wounded soldiers. Also in the area was a Canadian regiment of Foresters who were making pit props, trackways and dugouts for the battlefields of Europe. These paintings were produced, we must assume, by the men she met while working at the hospital, dances or other social activities. Some are definitely soldiers as they have signed their names with rank and/or regiment. A fascinating and historically interesting group of pictures.
