Description
A very rare early silver snuff box, rectangular with canted corners, and a flush mounted hinge. Fire-gilt interior. Armorial crest and partial maker’s mark ‘N’. This style of box usually dates to circa 1720, after the Britannia silver period (1697 – 1720), although here the style of the Armorial is late seventeenth century as is the mark, so the box may be William III. Tactile and elegant, a rare collector’s box.
