A fine original etching by Scottish artist Robert Walker Macbeth ( 1848-1910) , signed an dated 1880 in the plate. " The Ferry " Measures 24 x 34cm ( sheet, and is unframed but mounted. Robert Walker Macbeth was a painter and engraver born in Glasgow in 1848. He was the son of painter Norman Macbeth. Macbeth was educated at Edinburgh, in Friedrichsdorf, Germany, and the RSA Schools. He painted landscapes and rustic scenes as well as being one of the first illustrators on The Graphic. A fine etcher, Macbeth was elected RE when the Society was founded. Many of his landscapes were painted in Lincolnshire and in the West Country, although he spent much of his life in London. He exhibited seventy pictures at the RA among which were several hunting scenes. He was elected RE in 1880, RI, 1882, ROI, 1893, RWS, 1901 and RA, 1903. Examples of his work are in the collection of the Tate Gallery and in Adelaide Art Gallery.
