Description
An 18th century style tortoiseshell and gilt brass mantel clock by Samuel Marti.
The case is veneered with tortoiseshell and in the style of a bracket clock with gilt brass mounts, mouldings, feet, finials and a carrying handle.
The French eight day works strike the hour and half hour on a coiled gong and are stamped with the medallion for Samuel Marti.
Samuel Marti was a well known clock maker in Paris in the mid 19th century.
In 1860 it's known that his premises were situated at Le Pays de Montbeliard and in 1863 Marti worked with two other well known clock maker's Roux and Japy Frères in promoting their clock movements.
The white enamel dial has swags of flowers draped between the numbers.
