Deborah Jones - Artist

Self-taught painter of still life, trompe l’oeil and old backstreet antique shops in a style described as part imagery, part reality, Jones overcame family opposition to her career choice. After working as a lathe operator in World War II, Jones moved to London, living with several members of the International Ballet Company, painting friends in the ballet world and sketching people in pubs to make a living. Became immersed in the theatre, designing and painting sets, producing props and costumes for the Royal Opera House worked as Oliver Messel’s assistant was engaged in television, films, opera at Glyndebourne, the Edinburgh International Festival had a season working at Stratford and helped Bernard Miles start the Mermaid Theatre.
