Exquisite 18Kt Gold Golay Pocket Watch 1870
You’re bidding on an exquisite late 19th century 18Kt yellow gold Golay & Fils pocket, made in Geneva in 1870. This pocket watch is special because of the very high movement which is a Patek layout.
Dial: The gold coloured dial has black Roman numerals and nice blued hands with a subsidiary seconds dial at the six. The original protective glass is in excellent condition.
Movement: The very high quality keywind, as Patek Philippe, Golay anchor lever movement with plain three arm balance is working well and keeping good time, however we cannot guarantee absolute accuracy for an antique watch. The movement is signed: "BREV. S.G.D.G., PAT 44547, GOLAY FILS & STAHL, GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, FIVE ADJUSTMENTS, SIXTEEN JEWELS" and numbered: 31108.
Case: The 18Kt gold case has an engine turned finish. The inner side of the case is stamped for 18 Kt gold and numbered: 7986. The inner side of the cuvette ahs the same number.
The outside of the cuvette signed: “A. Golay Leresche Genève”.

See DICTIONNAIRE DES HORLOGERS GENEVOIS on page 211 by Osvaldo Patrizzi from ANTIQUORIUM. He describes that A.Golay Leresche (1837-1857) was a famous jeweller and case maker in Geneva, Switzerland. A. Golay also made specially was followed by his children and grand children of manufacturing and producing amazingly beautiful time pieces and jewels. He received medals from prices and first class at the universal exposition of London, Berne and Paris.
