Description

A stunning original oil painting on board by listed artist Michael Strang titled 'Poppy Field'. An original work, in his thick impasto style, well presented in a distressed effect wooden frame signed and dated lower right.

A good size piece in fantastic condition measuring 23' x 31' with a framed size of 36' x 28' Michael Strang has a Diploma in Art and Design (Hons) London, and studied under David Poole (President of the Royal Society of Portrait painters), Anthony Eyton RA, Ben Levine RA, Dick Lee, David Hepher and others at Wimbledon and Camberwell Schools of Art, between 1968 and 1973.

He paints mainly oil, (but sometimes water-colour) landscapes, still lifes, portraits and other subjects. He accepts commissions, and his work can be found in various collections in Canada, the USA, Switzerland, Germany, Corsica and the United Kingdom.

A series of over 50 small Porthmeor Paintings were shown at the Tate Gallery, St Ives in their 'Century of Images' exhibition from April to October 1995. Most of these paintings were on display again in the 1997 exhibition at the Camborne School of Mines Gallery. A selection can be seen in our Century of Images page.

The National Museum Wales has 2 of Michael Strang's works in their collection. In 2010 they purchased the painting Derelict Cottages, Llanelly Hill 1978, and at the same time Michael gifted them the painting Brynmawr Town Hall 1975.
