Description

This is a most imposing early Victorian sterling silver ewer or wine jug made by the Barnard Family (Edward, Edward Jnr, John and William and hallmarked in London 1841

It is in very good condition and stands firmly on on a square base. There is a reeded loop handle with applied decoration which culminates in an applied head. It has a scalloped rim and clearly struck hallmarks.

It comes with a book entitled 'The Berrow Wreck' and I believe the only reason for this is that to the front of the ewer is a fine engraving of a Victorian Belgian Pilots vessel which seems to have been taken from Plate 2 and was accompanying the ship Barque Normen which ultimately lost her sails and was wrecked)

The Barnard family were very well respected Victorian silversmiths and this is a fine example.
