This medieval hand forged polearm is French in origin and the type used by infantry to devastating effect during the 100 years war against the English ( 1337-1453) and also in the Burgundian wars against the Swiss (1475-1477). The Voulge was a heavy cutting blade mounted on a long shaft used to chop and slash at the enemy. The projecting hook (Guisarme) was used to dismount mounted knights by pulling them down. The heavy mass on the end of such a long haft gave the Voulge devastating cutting power. A terrifying weapon of the medieval French battle field. The bespoke oak display stand is included in the sale.
Harvey Evans Antiques has clarified that the 15th Century Guisarme-Voulge Polearm (LA321556) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being 15th century.
The Voulge has age related wear and is in battle used condition. It has small nicks and chinks on the blade. Caution the blade is still extremely sharp. The Voulge has pitting all over the weapon. Over the centuries a beautiful dark patina of brown and black covers the entire weapon. There are no cracks or breaks. Good solid condition.
