Description
This is a pair of tyrolean hall chairs, dating from the early 20th century (c.1900). The chairs are constructed from cherrywood and are of the typical tyrolean design, having turned and fluted legs, fitted through a solid shaped seat. The backs are shaped and carved with the spread-eagle emblem (an eagle depicted with open wings is a sign of protection). The top carving on the chair shows a stylised castle. The carvings of the eagles have slight variations due to the nature of hand carving.
