This is an exceptional set of six William IV/early Victorian hand-blown engraved wine goblets dating from the beginning of the 19th century, c1835. The glasses are in excellent condition for their age. This means, of course, that they show age related wear and tear to the rims of the feet consistent with 180+ years of use. They have polished out pontil marks on the bottom of the feet. The glasses have cup-shaped bowls measuring 8.7 cm (3.5 inches) in diameter at the rims. The bowls are decorated with an engraved band of foliage under the rims and with the letters "JSJ" or "FSJ" within a circular cartouche on one side. The bowls sit on short capstan stems with medial knops. The stems lead to conical feet which measure 7.4 cm (3 inches) in diameter. The glasses are 12 cm (4.8 inches) in height. Each glass weighs 233 g. (~ 8 1/4 oz.). There are no chips, cracks, scratches or any obvious signs of restoration. Dimensions vary between the glasses as should be expected of hand-blown items. A very usable set of glasses, each holding a modern serving of wine.
