Description
Early Victorian sterling silver Communion chalice goblet & pedestal paten tray, each with sunburst engraving with a cruciform, and the Christogram I H S taken from the latinised Greek Ι Η Σ, the first three letters of the Holy Name of Jesus Ι Η Σ Ο Υ Σ (I H S O U S). Hallmarks are very worn to the chalice, but somewhat clear to the paten, and consist of the lion passant mark for sterling silver, leopard head mark for London, London date letter E for 1840, makers mark C R G S for Charles Reily & George Storer, and the Victoria duty mark.

The chalice measures 65mm high by 35mm diameter at the base and 40mm diameter at the rim. The paten tray measures 59mm diameter, with a 32mm diameter base, by 10-11mm high (depending on rotation), and has a combined silver weight of 72.4g.
