Edith K Rees - Davies (1894 - 1968) was the daughter of Mr & Mrs James Green of Grasmere, Cumbria. Her father a watercolourist, was an academician of The Royal Scottish Academy. Edith grew up in the Lake District, the setting of many of her paintings. She attended the John Hassel School of Drawing, London where she gained distinction for her work. Wishing to take up art as a career, she was persuaded against this by her headmistress, who considered it too risky at that time, particularly as Edith's father had died young. It was not until later in life that Edith took up painting again, joining a class at the College of Art Taunton. Joining the Somerset Society of Artists, she exhibited and sold many of her paintings at the Society's annual exhibitions in Bath, Taunton, Yeovil and Exeter.
