John Douglas had a clockmakers business in Galston prior to 1824 and the case of this clock having Sheraton string inlay is believed to be from around 1800. He then moved to Dumbarton where he died in 1837 and was succeeded by his son Walter Douglas who transferred the business back to Galston that same year.
