Antique Austro-Hungarian Arts & Crafts Silver, Turquoise & Coral Ring c.1900
Ref: CA2039 / LA91941
This is a lovely ring to add to a jewellery collection or to wear as originally intended.
The ring is a very nice example of arts & crafts era jewellery - the ring is manufactured in unmarked silver which has cast foliage patterns to the shoulders - the face of the ring is a loose quatrefoil shape with a centrally mounted coral stone set within a rope twist border - there are a further 4 smaller coral stones at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions - furthermore there are 4 tiny turquoise stones set at the 10, 2, 4 and 8 o'clock positions.
In common with many rings made in mid Europe during this era the back of the face is still quite decorative - judging by the style and construction I'm as certain as I can be that this was made in the Austria-Hungary region which at the time would of encompassed many modern day mid Europe countries.
As mentioned above, the ring is unmarked which not as uncommon as you'd think during this era - it has been tested and shows itself to be of at least .830 grade silver, which was a fairly standard grade for this part of the world in this era.
The ring is currently sized at a U.K size N which is a US size 7 - there is the potential to resize the ring if required and naturally any jeweller will be able to do this for you.
To give you an idea of the size the face of the ring measures 1.9cm wide and is 1.8cm top to bottom - the total unpacked weight is 5.2g.
Width : 19 mm - 0.75 in
Weight : 5.2 g - 0.01 lb
Century Antiques has clarified that the Antique Austro-Hungarian Arts & Crafts silver, turquoise & coral ring (CA2039 / LA91941) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being 1900.
The condition of the ring is very good - as you'd expect for an item well over 100 years old, there is perfectly normal signs of wear, but this is nothing that you would consider to be damage - there are no splits or damage to the silver elements and the stones are all secure and without fault - you can also see the hammer marks to the back of the shank where the jeweller has shaped the silver, which is a nice touch.
