Mid 1800’s brass bound jewellery box suitable for a lady or gentlemen. Measures approximately 10 ¾” x 8” x 4 ¾”. No missing or replaced veneer. Unspoilt patina. Brass edge bound to the top and all four verticals along with inlaid brass straps, cartouche and escutcheon, all of which are original and firmly fixed. The interior features the original removable tray with the original dividers all of which can be removed/replaced to suit varying storage requirements. Three storage sections to the left of the tray. Storage space beneath the tray, again with removable dividers. Hinges and lock in good condition. A working key is supplied but is a little fiddly insofar that it needs to be pushed down at the end when locking/unlocking. A replacement key could of course be obtained but in reality generally keys are not used. The bases of the tray and the storage section along with the lid interior has been relined and is in perfect condition. The box was originally a ‘dressing box’ but in common with various styles of antique boxes they are now generally put to good modern day use as jewellery boxes. The jewellery shown in the photographs is not included in the sale and is shown to give an impression of suitability for use by a gentleman.Unpacked weight 1.5Kg
