Description

This is a stunning Art Nouveau antique hallmarked solid silver nurses belt buckle very much in the style of Liberty and Co pieces of the same age. Made by Deakin and Francis and so great quality. They still have their flag ship store at 21 Piccadilly Arcade in London. Full Birmingham hallmark with the date letter for 1906. Hand cut and soldered silver with a planished finish very like Knox designs.

Planishing is a metalworking technique that involves finishing the surface by finely shaping and smoothing sheet metal, in this case silver. This is done by hammering with a planishing hammer or slapper against a shaped surface called a planishing stake. That is how they created this amazing surface effect.

The silver weight is 37.1 grams
