At the time all mirrors were extremely expensive things, so these were luxury items for the wealthy. As the century progressed the dressing room or bedroom would become an important place for meeting close friends and the by the end of the 17th Century the famous toilet or swing mirror emerged as an elegant and practical item. These mirrors remained popular through the 18th and 19th Centuries with Mahogany becoming the most popular timber.
