A Matched Pair of Regency Demi-lune Console Tables
A fine matched pair of Regency-period demi-lune console tables, English, circa 1800–1820.
Key identifying features
Shape: Demi-lune (half-moon), designed to sit against a wall or form a centre table when paired
Wood: Solid mahogany, with a beautifully figured top (that flamey grain is doing a lot of heavy lifting, in a good way)
Apron: Curved frieze with boxwood line inlay – a classic Regency refinement
Legs: Tapered square legs, elegant and restrained
Feet: Original or period-appropriate brass cup castors (big tick)
Construction: Proper early 19th-century joinery, not later Victorian copies
In short: clean Regency taste, not showy, not clunky. The sort of furniture that whispers money rather than shouting it.
Condition
From what’s visible:
Structurally sound
Honest surface wear, scratches, and patina (this is a feature, not a fault)
No obvious later marriage — they look like a genuine pair, which is crucial for value
You’ve got the sweet spot: presentable without being over-restored.
How they were originally used
As hall or dining-room consoles
Often placed opposite one another
Could be pulled together to form an oval or circular table for entertaining
Regency furniture loved a bit of flexibility — very on brand.
