Wick Antiques was established by Charles Wallrock in the early 1980s. Having grown up in the Antiques world Charles developed an extensive wealth of knowledge. Starting out as a ‘man with a van’ he quickly gained a good reputation and embarked on a longstanding relationship with Harrods. He was later joined by his wife, Caroline Wallrock. Caroline having completed a Persian degree, went on to study at Christie’s fine art and then joined Sotheby’s specializing in Islamic and Japanese works of art, as well as taking the occasional auction. Together they make a formidable team with extensive knowledge and buy and sell some of the best items on the market.

Description
Pair of earlt 19th Century English George IV antique rosewood side cabinets by Gillows, each with two of mirror-backed shelves with brass galleries and bold S-scroll ends set above a rectangular cupboard, the doors inset with brass fish-eye grilles lined in pleated silk, decorated with ebony acanthus leaves and edging, one stamped on top of a door ‘Gillows. Lancaster’. English, circa 1820. Footnote: Closely related acanthus carved terminals can be seen on bookcases made by Gillows & Co for the library at Dallam Tower, Cumbria in 1829, and on a bookcase shown in Susan E. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840, Antique Collectors’ Club, 2008, vol. I, p. 379, pl. 450.
