Description
Rare Photosculpture by WILLEME
In 1860 Willème deposited his patent in Paris, for a process of photo-sculpture. The plastic properties are achieved by a special method of taking numerous silhouette views of the subject. These are then used to produce a 3-dimensional object.
The artist would have used a pantograph to transfer the silhouettes to the chosen medium. In this case a fabulous copper and brass bust. François Willème presented and described his process to the French Photographic Society on 17 May 1861.
This fabulous copper bust with a brass socle base is a rare beauty, small area of denting to the rear of the right lower shoulder. A fabulous decorative item.
