The watch has a signed stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover upon which are engraved details of the movement.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 800 silver with rose gold wash detail, known as a galonne case. Overall the condition is very nice with just one small "ding" to the side.

The lens is in good condition.

The white enamel double sunk dial is in beautiful condition and has charming ornate hands (one of the hands is a later replacement but of the correct period).

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.

In 1859 Gédéon Thommen and Louis Tschopp purchased Société d'Horlogerie à Waldenburg, a watch manufacturing company set up to provide employment for the locals.

A new railway was built but it bypassed Waldenburg and effectively cut the factory off from the commercial centres. Gédéon Thommen funded 'Waldenburgerbahn', a steam train which connected the valley’s villages.

Tschopp subsequently left the company and the company was renamed Gédéon Thommen’s Uhrenfabrik, and it became very successful.

In 1905, the company was re-named again, Revue Thommen... until then Revue was simply a brand name used by the company for their wrist watches.

In 1916, Thommen created the first aircraft chronograph for the Swiss Air Force and the company had great success as an aircraft instrument supplier.

As well as watches and movements, Thommen supplied a variety of equipment including altimeters, airspeed indicators, pocket altimeters for alpinists and parachutists.

All of our watches are checked over before listing and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
