Description

A lovely vase rather bordering the Art Nouveau/Art Deco styles, made by the Pearl Pottery in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent in about 1920. The vase is earthenware and uses the tube lined method of decoration used also by Moorcroft and Crown Ducal in the Stoke-on-Trent area, and the style of this vase is very similar to the work of Charlotte Rhead at Crown Ducal, although the glazes are markedly different. The main body glaze is a matt streaked glaze which gives a stoneware effect to the whole vase, and the flowers are also picked out in stoneware style glaze.

Pearl pottery operated from 1892 to 1936, when it changed its name to the New Pearl Pottery Company. The vase has the usual printed mark of the period and has a painted mark 75/7/10, which we understand is a shape and pattern number. In fact the body of the the vase has a raised 75 mark denoting the shape.
