Set of Six Late 19th-Century Mahogany Hepplewhite-Style Dining Chairs A very good set of six late 19th-century mahogany dining chairs in the Hepplewhite revival style, dating to circa 1870–1885. Each chair features an elegant bowed top rail above a finely carved and pierced splat with flowing interlaced motifs and moulded borders. The frames are made from dense, high-quality mahogany with excellent colour and weight, reflecting the standards of the better Victorian cabinet shops who revived late Georgian neoclassical designs with considerable finesse. The chairs stand on reeded, square tapering front legs and gently splayed rear supports, giving them both refinement and presence. Traditionally upholstered seats are covered in a high-quality dark blue horsehair fabric. A well-proportioned and visually appealing set, combining the grace of Hepplewhite design with the durability of 19th-century construction.
