Dealer of The Month - Canonbury Antiques

Welcome to the newest Feature on our Blog, 'Dealer of The Month.' With so many fantastic Antique Dealers joining LoveAntiques every week, we want to keep you up to date with who's who and this feature will be a great way for us to showcase the superb stock they have to offer, whilst helping you to learn a little bit about who you are buying from.

To start us off, we have the pleasure in introducing to you, Canonbury Antiques.

Canonbury Antiques has been trading as a London based family run antiques and interiors business since the mid 1960's. Initially established by Martin Worster Snr, the first shop was on Blackstock Road in Islington, North London - at the time a thriving and important street for the antiques trade. In the Swinging Sixties London was the epicentre of cool and this has had a really positive affect on the business, particularly helping trade with America to flourish throughout the 1970's.

In the 1980's Canonbury Antiques established their famous shop on 174 Westbourne Grove in Notting Hill Gate - close to Portobello Road, another very important street for the antiques trade. Martin Worster Jnr tells us, "These were great years - they even filmed an episode of Lovejoy at our showroom starring Ian McShane." Canonbury Antiques also expanded with another showroom on Church Street, NW8 in Marylebone to accommodate their growing customer base.

In the late 90's the business started to move online so Canonbury Antiques established their very own website, and decided it was time to move to be closer to where they live in Hertfordshire and to occupy a larger premises (and to thankfully eliminate a daily commute into the Big Smoke!). Martin says, "We're glad to welcome all visitors into our Canonbury Antiques Hertfordshire antiques showroom, which is just outside Potters Bar where the A1 meets the M25. We specialise in English dining furniture, continental antiques, architectural and garden items, Asian furniture and porcelain, bronzes and all things for the quirky interior."
