Item of The Week - George III Antique Dressing Chest

How long does it take you to get ready for a night out on the town? An hour or two maybe? Maybe longer? Well now you can cut down this time by keeping everything you need to glam up in one place, with this ultimate George III Antique Dressing Chest.

This fabulous piece of Antique Furniture is the perfect storage unit to house your essentials. Boasting a wonderful serpentine-shaped design and dating from the mid-18th Century, this unit on first appearance looks to be a small chest with carry handles on the sides and a few drawers, but it’s more than that. In fact, the top section opens up to transform the chest in to the most pleasing of dressing tables, with an abundance of storage space.

The Folding top opens like a book with the undersides of each hinged lid acting as deep storage pockets; perfect to keep your make up from rolling off the sides as you get ready. Furthermore, when opened, we are presented with a fitted interior to the centre of the chest that includes various compartments (some with lids on), and a lift-up easel mirror. This aptly sized mirror won’t overpower the unit, but more importantly, won’t block out the light as would a fixed mirror if being used next to a window, and of course it conveniently folds away when not in use.

These practical storage compartments and mirror sit over an arrangement of one long and four short drawers with a useful pull-out brush slide that is situated directly underneath them. The chest is made from mahogany and stands on four slimline square legs which are united by cross stretchers.

Overall, the versatility of this chest is delightful and it’s rich and sophisticated appearance whether fully opened or neatly closed, will add a touch of splendour to any bedroom or dressing room.

It is for sale from Robert Christie Antiques for £795
